VIP
Also Known As: Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide, Aviptadil, RLF-100, VIP peptide, VPAC agonist, Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide, VIP neuropeptide, Aviptadil COVID, VIP ARDS treatment, Intestinal neuropeptide VIP, Vasorelaxant peptide, Pituitary adenylate cyclase peptide family, PACAP-related peptide
VIP is a research-grade 28-amino acid neuropeptide and hormone targeting VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors studied in Immunity & Wellness research. It is supplied strictly for in vitro laboratory research use only - not for human or animal consumption, and not FDA-approved.
Evidence Tier: Investigational - In active human clinical trials; not yet approved.
A vasodilating peptide hormone studied for lung disease; carries a notable low-blood-pressure risk.

Mechanism Of Action
It binds to VIP receptors throughout the body, causing smooth muscle relaxation. This dilates blood vessels, reduces systemic inflammation, and has been uniquely effective in reversing chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS).
Studied For
- ARDS / acute respiratory failure research
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Sarcoidosis treatment research
- Erectile dysfunction (intracavernosal)
- COVID-19 respiratory complication research
- GI motility modulation
- Intestinal inflammation / IBD
- Neurotransmission modulation
- Vasodilation / blood pressure
- Immune modulation
- Lung protection
- Asthma research
- Pancreatic secretion
- Circadian rhythm modulation
- Anti-inflammatory cytokine modulation
- Neuroprotection
- gut health
- mold toxicity
- CIRS
- anti-inflammatory
- bronchodilation
- pulmonary hypertension
- erectile dysfunction
- immune tolerance
Reported Research Findings
A large randomized COVID-19 trial of IV aviptadil did not significantly improve outcomes. VIP with phentolamine is approved for erectile dysfunction in some countries.
Safety And Handling Notes
SAFETY FLAG: infusion hypotension, diarrhea, and facial flushing; high-dose VIP can cause severe secretory diarrhea with acid-base disturbance.
Hypotension can be clinically important and warrants monitoring; efficacy in respiratory disease is unproven. Investigational.
Regulatory Status
FDA orphan designations but not approved; investigational.
